Poster of the Week: Art & Strategy 92

Here we have a beautiful and large poster from the "Art & Strategy 92" art exhibit.

"Art & Strategy" being the design and artistic vehicle through which Daniel B. and Patrick create the artwork, stage design, multimedia, and other creative forces behind the Front 242 image. (It also happens to be the name of a song on "Geography.")

In 1992, three exhibits where held in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York; showcasing the fantastic works of Art & Strategy. The shows consisted of numerous paintings and prints, which can be seen in the A&S Catalogue (a future post!) and an ambient CD was issued as well (yet another future post!) I will eventually get around to posting some reviews of the show as well.

This poster is a very large 24 inches by almost 36 inches on foam board, so it is quite sturdy. It sports a lovely gray with the brilliant red "242 Sphere" that was very prominent in 242 imagery of that time. The background also shows many other 242 symbols.

Not sure how many of these were actually made, but is beautiful framed and so I consider it "priceless." (Now to get the guys to sign it....)

Poster of the Week: ReBoot 98 Minneapolis, MN

Here we have an interesting poster from the Re:Boot '98 Tour. This was a "comeback" tour of sorts as Front 242 had returned with its newly updated ("Re:Booted") sound and an extensive tour across the United States followed.

Here we have a poster from the August 21, 1998 show at "The Quest" in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Apparently this club was originally started by Prince. Unfortunately it now appears to be closed, or has changed names over the last decade. Here is an article about its passing:

This black & white poster measures 11 by 17 inches and is printed on regular paper stock. I refer to this and other posters like it as "242 Mash-up." Here we see design elements from several different Front 242 eras, thrown together. Personally I am not a big fan of mixing these elements.
This poster is somewhat of a departure in that most of the Re:Boot Tour posters featured  the beautiful artwork from the CD release. Also the opening act was "And One"...whereas Project Pitchfork opened for much of the tour.

Poster of the Week: Catch The Men Tour 2005, Seattle, Washington

Here we have two posters from the 2005 Anniversary "Catch The Men Tour."
The first appears to be a "generic" version of the print in which a venue could write the time, place and date at the bottom.
It is on shiny, heavy card stock and measures 18 X 24 inches. It heavily promotes Metropolis Records, which possibly supplied these? The artwork is a very menacing 'electronic' gray skull against a red swirly background.

The second poster is somewhat smaller at  13 X 19 inches  and is on paper stock. It is an actual poster from the November 4, 2005 show at club Fenix Underground in Seattle, Washington. Apparently this club no longer exists.

Poster of the Week: UP EVIL in-store promo

Here we have a nice promotional poster issued by RRE/Epic for in-store display of the Front 242 album release "06:21:03:11 UP EVIL". It measures 12 inches by 12 inches on card paper stock. The front features the album artwork, identical to the 12" album itself.
The reverse lists several tracks including "Religion" (Note here it lists "Burn You Down" in parenthesis. This could be confusing, as nowhere do I find this song listed in that manner...perhaps it is to help those unfamiliar with Front 242 to identify that particular song, as it was released as the first single?")
Also credited are the tracks "Crapage" "Melt" and "Hymn" and finally a blurb about Front 242 on the Lollapalooza Tour.

Overall, it is a nice piece and the cover art is still very striking and very suitable for framing. However, my only criticism would have to be that for anyone not familiar with Front 242, it would be quite difficult to locate the band name, much less the album...

Poster of the Week: Front 242 & Project Pitchfork, Maritime Hall, San Fransisco

Here is a nice, apparently limited edition show flier, for one of the stops on the 1997-1998 Re:Boot Tour. This particular show is from the (in)famous Maritime Hall in San Francisco, July 23, 1998. The opening act was Metropolis Records label-mate, Project Pitchfork.

This poster measures 11 X 17 inches on white stock. It was designed by "Chris" who also signed and numbered it as #6/50. It is reminiscent of those "groovy" 60s music posters in the San Fran Scene. I am intrigued by the "$3 Burger & A Beer!"
